Express Prediction: 2 medals, if everything is going well

Predictions for Gracenote: 8 medals in total (2 golds, 4 silvers and 2 bronze medals)

Elavenil Valarivan gold medals at the 10m Women’s Air Rifle with Manu Bhaker and the 10m Air Pistol Chaudhary pair.

– Silver in 10m Air Pistol men’s and women’s individual events for Saurabh Chaudharian and Manu Bhakers, Rahi Sarnobat in the Women’s Air Rifle 25m and Divyansh Singh Panwar/Elavenil Valarivan in the 10m Air Rifle mixed event.

Divyansh Singh Panwar bronze medals in 10m Air Rifle Men’s Air Rifle and Singh Deswal in 10m Air Pistol Women’s event.

Recently, the 10m Air Pistol mixed-team event has been announced as an Olympic discipline. India has two shooters that have dominated the world since 2019, Saurabh Chaudhary and Manu Bhaker, who have won the World Cup golds in New Delhi, Beijing, Munich, Rio de Janeiro and then again in New Delhi. While their first four gold medals were earned in 2019, it was their hardest gold medal in 2021 in New Delhi.

Iran’s combo Javad Foroughi and Golnoush Sebghatollahi rushed 10-6 in front of Chaudhary and Bhaker, and fired 10.7 on 12-12 and 10.5 each to win the team’s event by 0.7. In the same world cup for the 10m men’s Air Pistol, Foroughi also beat Chaudhary – a discipline in which India is predicted to win a medal.

Predict: 1 medal, best case scenario 2

Prediction Gracenote: 3 Medals (2 golds, 1 bronze)

Bajrang Punia’s gold medals in men’s freestyle wrestling category 65 kg and women’s freestyle wrestling category 53 kg.

Deepak Punia bronze at men’s freestyle wrestling 86kg event.

In Indian wrestling, two names stand out as potential medal prospects. Vinesh Phogat is the top seed in Tokyo Olympics in the 53-kg freestyle wrestling division. A medal – or the colour – rests on so many elements in a field which comprises Swedes Sofia Mattson, Chinese Pang Qianyu, American Jacarra Winchester and Phogats Japanese adversary, Mayu Mukaida.

The draw, conditions, preparation – notably at Covid-19 times – all contribute to the day’s performance of any individual wrestler. Mukaida is the gold standard for Phogat in its category. Three times, the Japanese wrestler defeated Phogat, but both were only scheduled to meet each other in the final.

Phogat Vinesh and Punia Bajrang

In the men’s division, the legend of Bajrang Punia is tested in a 65-kg field. His largest opponent, like Phogat’s, is a Japanese wrestler. He is second behind Russia’s Gadhzimurad Rashidov. Takuto Otoguro is fifth in the category Bajrang and has been a thorn on the side of the Haryana wrestler forever. But with the exception of the Japanese, Punia has a proven and tested record of the rest of its opponents.

Ravi Dahiya has the Indian gas tank at 57 kilogrammes and could erupt on his day.

Express Prediction: None, or perhaps 1

Prediction of Gracenote: 2 medals (1 silver and 1 bronze)

– Silver in women’s individual event for Deepika Kumari

– Men’s recurve team bronze

For the first time the mixed archery team event will take place, thus there is no history to go by. But, like every other sporting tournament, the Koreans are the gold standard and the safe money should be on them here.

At the most recent World Cup the Indian team Deepika Kumari and Atanu Das won the Gold Medal, although several of the top nations have not sent their teams. When all falls, the husband-wife dynamic can be expected to return with the country’s first ever medal in the sport.

Deepika Kumari is currently the world’s number one archer and it is to be seen whether she can make good use of the current shape, trust, experience and maturity of her in the women’s event at her third Olympics.
